Victory Over Repeated Afflictions: God’s Assurance of Deliverance

Victory Over Repeated Afflictions: God’s Assurance of Deliverance

Text: Nahum 1:9
“What do ye imagine against the Lord? He will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.”

Beloved brethren, today we gather with a profound declaration from the word of God: “Affliction shall not rise up again.” This statement is not merely a phrase; it is a divine promise of deliverance, healing, and restoration for all who trust in the Lord. It is a reminder that God’s intervention is powerful enough to utterly destroy every affliction that once plagued us.

In Nahum 1:9, God promises His people that He will make an end of their affliction, and it shall not rise up a second time. This is the assurance we hold on to, even in the midst of trials, pain, and setbacks. When you find yourself in a season where it feels like affliction has taken residence in your life—whether through illness, financial hardship, emotional distress, or even spiritual battles—be reminded today that God has promised victory.

1. God’s Power to Break the Cycle of Affliction

Afflictions can often feel like unending cycles in our lives, as though no matter how hard we try, we are always confronted with the same struggles. However, God’s promise is clear—He breaks the cycles of pain, oppression, and suffering. When God steps into your situation, He puts an end to the repetitive attacks of the enemy. The same affliction that harassed you yesterday will not return tomorrow, for the Lord has declared it finished.

Remember the Israelites at the Red Sea. Pharaoh’s army had been their constant affliction. But when God parted the Red Sea and closed it on their enemies, He made sure that those Egyptians who tormented them would never rise again. Exodus 14:13 declares, “The Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see them again no more forever.” This is the same assurance for us—God has sealed our victory.

2. God’s Ultimate Plan of Deliverance

Sometimes we question why afflictions occur, and it is important to acknowledge that afflictions often serve a purpose in our spiritual journey. They may come as a test of faith, as a refinement process, or as part of life’s fallen nature. But God never intends for His children to remain in affliction.

Psalm 34:19 tells us, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” This scripture emphasizes that God’s plan is always deliverance. No matter how great the affliction, His ultimate goal is to bring us out stronger, more victorious, and more aligned with His purpose. And when He delivers, He delivers completely, ensuring that what once troubled you will no longer have any power over your life.

3. A Time of Restoration and New Beginnings

God’s promise that affliction shall not rise up again is also a promise of restoration. When affliction is broken, God doesn’t leave us in the ruins of what was. He rebuilds, restores, and renews. This is why we can boldly declare that our future is brighter than our past. Where there was once affliction, God brings peace. Where there was once loss, He brings restoration. Where there was once despair, He fills our hearts with hope.

Job, after his season of affliction, was restored double for everything he had lost (Job 42:10). This shows us that not only does God put an end to our suffering, but He also restores us abundantly. As you trust in God’s deliverance, expect restoration to follow your breakthrough.

4. Hold Firm to the Promise

Finally, brethren, we must hold on to this promise with unwavering faith. The enemy may try to whisper doubts into our hearts, but we must stand on the word of God that declares, “Affliction shall not rise up again.” Declare it over your life, your family, your finances, your health, and every area where you have faced struggles.

Remember, our God is a covenant-keeping God. What He has promised, He will perform. His word never returns void, and if He has declared that affliction will not rise up a second time, then that is the final word.

Conclusion

Today, I encourage you to stand firm in faith, believing that the affliction you once faced will not rise again. Trust in God’s deliverance and know that your future is secure in His hands. The Lord has made an utter end of your affliction, and He is ushering you into a season of restoration, healing, and peace.

Let us go forth in confidence, knowing that our afflictions are behind us, and before us lies the victory that Christ has already secured.

May God bless and keep you, and may His peace fill your hearts today and always. Amen.
